What better than to get wedding favors for your drinking connoisseurs

Do you have people that love to take a sip every now and again? Well, why not create some funny wedding favors just for them. You can post a funny message relating to their favorite spirit or alcoholic beverage. Favors don't have to cost very much, but at the same time they don't have to look cheap. You can get a nice box and have a funny card inside to let them get a little laugh. You can also take it to another level by adding some custom wine stoppers inside to really help put some decorum on their wine bottles.

What is your favorite kind of spirit and why?

Yup, I'm just posting up some really cool stuff lately on the blog and I just decided to take a poll of some sort. You know to kind of getting more people involved. I just had a very simple question to ask all of you spirit connoisseurs out there. What is your favorite spirit and why?

Are you into vodka, tequila, rum, scotch, whiskey, cognac, gin, what?

I'll tell you why I'm into a few spirits.

For me, I personally love Vodka and Rum the most out of all of them.

Vodka because you can mix into anything. Premium Vodka has a really smooth, crisp flavor. Ciroc is probably my favorite vodka for this reason. Ciroc Coconut is something I can sip neat or on ice without a problem. If I want to mix it, all I need is some pineapple juice and I can call it a day. Or I can even do an infusion with pineapple and keep it moving just like that.

As far as mixing is concerned, there are a bunch of mid range vodkas out there that do not cost a fortune such as Sobieski and New Amsterdam. You can literally get a big bottle of these for less than 20 bucks. Also, Three Olives is a great go to kind of liquor. There are a myriad of GREAT flavors that range from grape, cake, even a mountain dew flavor called DUDE (I'll show you a video of that below). These make a very dope setting to create some good shots for people. You DEFINITELY need to check this vodka out. Depending on where you are located, a 1.75 of 3 Olives may run you about 23-25 bucks.

Now, let me get into the Rum! I absolutely love Rum. I mean, I'm Caribbean for goodness sakes! LOL. Why would I not love Rum? LOL.

The thing I love the most about Rum is not only does it have a very refreshing taste, but there are different types of Rum. Dark Rum, White Rum, Aged Rum, Spiced Rum, Dark Spiced Rum. This is not even getting into the FLAVORS yet. These are pretty much standards right here! Rum is also really great for the ladies. For example, Malibu Rum is a very light sipping rum that you can make some excellent cocktails and shots with. You can even mix that with an overproof rum such as Bacardi 151 to make a Caribou Lou Cocktail!

My absolute favorite rum has to be Appleton Estate. Whether it's the normal X/V or the 12 to 21 year, all of these are really great Premium Rum. I've heard about Appleton for quite some time but did not actually try it until November 2011. The great thing about Appleton is it can be sipped finely neat. It has a very great nutmeg, brown sugar, banana peel vibe to it that you can distinctly separate from other rums. Also, it has the body of a fine cognac. If you want my personal review of Appleton, you need to check out this old post I wrote back then and other cool rum based cocktails

That's pretty much all I have for this morning. Please answer the question below, share it, re-blog. Whatever you gotta do!

5 Tips on making your own cocktail

Hey, everyone! Another cool blog post coming your way to give you a bit of insight! I've been making my own kind of drinks for the past 2 years or so just trying out different elements. I've come up with 5 ways to really develop your cocktail!

1.) Choosing your spirit

By far, this is the best thing to think about first BEFORE anything! Now, you don't have to go top shelf, but at the same time, don't be cheap and get a plastic bottle. If you really want to do some quality stuff, pick something within midrange. That way even if your mix doesn't come out right, you'll still have a bottle to mess around with for regular stuff. Also, choosing the right spirit helps to ensure a certain flavor, a certain vibe, and distinct aftertaste on your palate.

2.) Using fresh ingredients

Often times at the bar or so, there will be pre-made ingredients such as pre-made lime juice, pre-made lemon juice, sweet and sour, or whatever! No, learn to make your own! The fresher the ingredients, the better your cocktail will taste! Guaranteed! Trust me!

3.) Infusing your own liquor

This is a bit trickier, but it's satisfying. I'll tell you why. I did a nice infusion mixing pineapples and apples together to make a sort of pineapple/apple/coconut vodka. Very flavorful, but still had a great bite to it! Also, you can kind of make it into your own punch! Knowing what flavors go together, that's something that's very necessary. Some flavors definitely taste off when you mix them wrong.

4.) Pouring amounts

This is also tricky. If you have a rum based cocktail, it's already kind of sweet onto its own. Depending on your amount of liquor that you pour in, you have to get good measurements. For example, 1 1/2-2 oz of a spirit plus a certain juice could be like 1 oz or so. This way, it's not overbearingly sweet, and the alcohol is not overbearing as far as the punch you get when you start drinking it.

5.) Have fun!

Remember, whether you come up with the perfect cocktail or you make a mistake...remember, have fun! It's a process before you learn your pour amounts, what works with what...just EXPERIMENT. That's how a lot of these cocktails came about! Experimentation and knowing what flavors bring out the best in the alcohol!

Check out a few posts on my MOST popular mix that I came up with called the Tropical Storm and then look at a few of these cool creations below! Enjoy!

Developing a palate for alcoholic drinks and making them (Spirits)

Hey, everyone! I'm definitely taking a bit of a different turn right now talking about this particular subject! All right. Everyone has their preference when it comes to liquor and I'm a bit more on the Vodka and Rum side! For most people, they like to mix their drinks up so it kills the alcohol taste. Other people love the notes that certain liquors brings. Let's talk about this briefly.

Vodka - ethanol burn either with a wheat, rye, potato, grain, or grape taste. I'm more preferable to the wheat or grape taste. I can most certainly sip those or take cold shots of those with no problem. You cannot forget about the flavored ones as well. There's quite a wide range of them.

Rum - these definitely vary in flavor. You have more of the caramel, oak, banana, coconut, and other flavors. Of course, there are flavored ones as well but the ones I mentioned are more of the norm. Cannot forget spiced either!

Tequila - THIS is a category on it's own. Tequila has a very distinctive plant based taste that comes from something called Agave. The smell and the taste is very unique and it's a special category on it's own.

Cognac/Brandy - basically the same thing. A bit oaky, a bit nutmeg, and kind of reminds you have an alcoholic cola to be honest.

Scotch/Whiskey - oaky, warm, subtle notes of honey in certain cases, etc. These are two you normally sip on ice or with a coke.

Now, MOST people do not like sipping on ice, which is why mixing is so popular. However, some flavors together really do add something to the table. For example, a coconut rum and pineapple is a great trade off. All I have to say is don't be afraid to try out new stuff. Don't be afraid to try on ice or to drink it with a mixer, I'm pretty sure you'll love the results! Here are a few videos on Bar Tools and getting spirits.

A crazy party on Saturday/trying out flavors for cocktails

As you can see, this is a very interesting set of bottles. And yes, this was a pretty insane party! Shoutout to my mellow, Boom. Now, here I want to talk a little bit about trying out flavors. I'm not the biggest fan of flavored drinks, but some people really love different flavors and how they mesh together. I will tell you about a Cocktail I made (I don't have a name for it yet), and the kind of flavors that came together into a sort of dessert.

So, there was cake vodka (more specifically UV Cake Vodka) and I saw there was some Amaretto (which has like a nutmeg kind of flavor...very savory) then I decided to put in some cream soda. At the first taste, I was like "Yo, this is mad good!" It's almost like an ice cream sundae! Then I decided to spruce it up with some 99 bananas. That really gave it a banana sundae float feel to it. It was extremely good. Not overly sweet and very soothing going down!

I'm finding out that Bartending/Mixology/Making Drinks is akin of Chemistry. You have to find the perfect measurements and the right flavors to really kind of let everything come out. Too much of one thing, too little of one thing has terrible results. Even for a strong drink like a Long Island Ice Tea, the measurements are imperative. Yes, you want your drink to be super strong, but at the same time, you want the sweetness in there to make everything come out all right. Very soothing to the taste, but packs a punch so you work in your buzz!

Another thing to note, not all flavors are created equal. Certain flavors out there taste really disgusting, others taste really good, some great with just ice, others need to be mixed to really let the flavors come out. It all really depends! That is all, yo! Hope this helps!

Yessir! I gotta party to go to tomorrow so I decided to finish whipping up this little batch with what I showed you from yesterday's Thirsty Thursdays and I added a WHOLE LOT of shit to the mix! Let's take a look shall we:

The main ingredients used are New Amsterdam (Vodka), Three Olives (Vodka), Cruzan Rum ,Lemonade (Simply Lemonade), Pineapple Juice, Cranberry Juice, and Hawaiian Punch as a topper. I have pictures of some of the things I did to make it but I'm gonna show the end result right here:

Thirsty Thursdays - Cruzan Bay Breeze

So, I decided to make a nice nightcap cocktail in a nice glass containing rum, cranberry, and pineapple juice. It's definitely a good mix. Very balanced.

Mine is a bit strong and it's in a tall glass so I used:

2 1/2 oz of Cruzan Rum
1 oz of Pineapple Juice
1 oz of Cranberry Juice
Ice

It's in a tall glass, too. So yeah, you can get the bird eye's view of the drink. LOL.

Here are two examples of a Bay Breeze. One with Vodka and the other with Rum. I woulda gotten the Malibu but Cruzan was on sale and it's a much more potent rum than the 21% ALC coming from the Malibu.

Thirsty Thursdays - Cruzan Aged Rum and Pineapple

Yo, yo! Been a little since I've graced the stage with a lil something. Today, we have a little something I copped from the liquor store! It's a nice bottle (on sale for 36% off) of Cruzan Aged White Rum and some good ol Pineapple Juice. I'm going to drink a bit of it 2nite, but I mainly copped for a mix I'm finishing up for a party on Saturday. I was going to cop Malibu, but my pockets told me to go for this and it's a bit stronger! Besides, the mix is already a bit on the sweet and sour side so I think the coconut would have overdone it just a bit. However, there is always that chance I can put in some real coconut. You never know! I will definitely show the full thing tomorrow as the main section is kickin it on ice in the mini fridge downstairs. Tomorrow, I'm going to make it and I'll show you all the ingredients then! Enjoy! Happy Thirsty Thursdays sippin' my ppl!

Stocking your home bar via TipsyBartender

If you are starting your own home bar, this is definitely a great one to watch. He doesn't talk about Jager (but then again I DONT CARE FOR JAGER!!!) LOL. He goes through a number of vodka, tequilas, rums (of course), and whiskeys. He even goes through a couple of brandy bottles more specifically Hennessey.

Definitely check this out. Also, you can check out his older one I posted as well as Everyday Drinkers' Derrick Schommer's philosophy on picking what you actually really like then building a bar from that base!

Fog Cutter Cocktail - The Cocktail Spirit - Robert Hess

The Avocado Sour Cocktail Recipe via Common Man Cocktails

More tequila! He uses a good one here! Don Julio =). Recipe is supposed to be a bit savory and complex with the agave, pomegranate, and the avocado. This mix provides an excellent balance between sweet and sour. Looks very enjoyable.

Recipe
2 oz. Tequila
1 oz. Lime Juice
1 oz. Simple Syrup
1/2 oz. Pomegranate Juice
2 Dashes Orange Bitters
1 Avocado

Amaretto Sour - The Morgenthaler Method - Small Screen

I can definitely appreciate a cocktail like this. I mean, Amaretto is not what you call a serious drink. In my opinion, you might as well put that in the wine or triple sec category. Good for a chick (well, some that just like the weak and sweet cocktails) but not so great for a guy. This is what you definitely call a European style cocktail.

Here his recipe:
1 1/2 amaretto
3/4 oz cask strength bourbon
1 oz fresh lemon juice
1 tsp. 2:1 simple syrup
1/2 oz egg white

Strawberry Jungle Juice on a less than $30 budget by Tipsy Bartender

If you ever made a serious Jungle Juice, you'll know it's kind of expensive with all of the ingredients like the fruits, the juices, and of course the liquors depending on what kind you get. Best Bars in Tokyo: CAP BAR: Tokyo's Capcom Bar and Restaurant

Man, this is AWESOME! I've never seen anything quite like this. A video game based bar and restaurant? WHAT!!!! You can check out the full setup on their site.

So far from what I've seen the CAP BAR consists of cool foods and drinks from some of your favorite games like Biohazard, Resident Evil, Street Fighter, Monster Hunter, and Devil May Cry to name a few. There are even servers that will give you your drinks or serve your food in character as you will see below on the clip. This is really ingenious! I'm definitely going to be on the look out to promote more cool bars like this!

Chug Fridays - CIROC VODKA BOTTLE SLAMMED 4 DIDDY & WSHH

Man, oh man! I haven't done a Chug Fridays in a while!!!! This is definitely a good chug. I love Ciroc with a passion, but not that much to knock a whole bottle down like that! 0_o. JEEZ! I pray for this dude's liver on the serious tip! It's quite insane! If you want to see more Ciroc based recipes you can check out the Ciroc Peach Recipes posted by my homegirl DJ Makeup Box, Ciroc Recipes on my blog, and of course the one that gets the talk of the town - the Tropical Storm!

Nas ft Amy Winehouse - Cherry Wine (Official Video)

Man, I love this song. It's def one of my favorite tracks off "Life is Good". A great tribute to Amy Winehouse on the video as well. I already posted this up on one of my blog and thought it was perfect for this blog as well. I do have a nice wine recipe here. Mixing Ciroc and Wine because they do play off each other with that grape flavor and I had a some cherry juice to the mix. You can check that out here. Peep the video below:

Espresso Martini via Tipsy Bartender

This is kinda crazy because the vodka and coffee liqueur presence is actually really there. However, the espresso is much stronger and used as a wake up call that you can't even really feel the liquor until you actually really get into your drink. That's pretty bugged out. If coffee wasn't already strong, you'll get buzzed of the liquor hidden in the espresso taste. lol.

Recipe
1oz Espresso
1 1/2oz Vodka
1 1/2oz Coffee Liqueur
1oz White Creme de Cacao
1oz Milk (optional)

Hankie Pankie Cocktail Recipe via Common Man Cocktails

Yup, it's champagne week on Common Man Cocktails. Def cool with the shoutout for Drink Inc on the Hungry Channel on YouTube. . If you haven't seen it, I highly advise you to watch it! It's a great series! They have a bunch of shows on there, too.

Here's the recipe

3 oz. Lemon Vodka
1 oz. Limoncello
Top with Champagne

Top Liquors/Liqueurs to get the ladies loose for a party!

You see that drink? Now, that's what you call a nice chick drink! Let's get into some more shall we?

What up, everyone?! A Thirsty Thursdays post? Why not! I haven't sipped since September 23rd. I probably won't get into liquor until this weekend. LOL. However, I do have a good gem for all the fellas out there trying to impress that cute girl! If you don't already know, a good portion of the girls out there are very fond of sweet drinks. A lot of women cannot handle liquor on the status of a guy simply because they are built smaller. However, there are some exceptions to the rule as always. Let's get into some liquor shall we:

1.) Malibu Rum!

This has to be number one in my opinion! Ladies love Rum especially Coconut Flavor! The great thing about Malibu Rum is that they have really good flavors such as Coconut, Pineapple, and Mango. You can use these in a number of different shots such as the Scooby Snack which is part Malibu and part Midori! Um, for an even stronger drink I HIGHLY recommend the Caribou Lou. It's one part Bacardi 151, one part Malibu Rum, and a nice topper of Pineapple Juice! It's a great summer/party drink.

2.) Midori

Great color. Apparently, it means Green in Japanese (I'm going to have to get some confirmation on that one). LOL. It's a nice light melon liqueur that you can use in a Midori Sour cocktail. It looks great when mixed with different drinks and adds a lot of color.

3.) Peach Schnapps

Another good liquor that's great for the ladies. You get a little vodka, some peach schnapps, and some cranberry + orange juice - there you go. A sex on the beach! Perfect drink for a female!

4.) X-Rated Fusion Liqueur

It's a ready to made drink with a low enough alcohol content where your lady can sip but still get that buzz end after sipping for a few hours. It's mixed with vodka, orange, mango, and passion fruit all in one go

5.) Hpnotiq

Now, this is an interesting one. It has a really cool blue color and it's mixed with vodka, cognac, and some type of fruit. It kind of reminds me of Alize. If you mix equals parts of Hennessey and Hpnotiq, you'll create the Incredible Hulk (it's a green color) VERY STRONG! Be warned! LOL.

6.) Qream

As a bonus we have Qream, from all the girls I've seen - they really love this stuff. It's made by Pharrell. It actually has less calories than wine. I would consider this good for your lady to make her favorite desserts and what not. Maybe sipping on ice or something. I personally wouldn't drink it, but hey...if it's for your lady, by all means! Cop it for her.

I'm going to post a few of these cocktails/liqueurs/liquors below. Enjoy!

Spiked 7-11 Slurpee via Tipsy Bartender

Man, talk about a sugary rush! LOL. On the serious tip, I think everyone has done this quite a bit. This is ghetto but it gets the job done. What I woulda done is probably use some regular or coconut rum then put it in the mix. You could easily go to your local liquor store get a cheap bottle or a get a few minis that equals to 3-4 shots and then go crazy with all of the 7-11 flavors. Really bad for you, but if you tryna ball on a budget, then go for it! LOL. Enjoy!

Their recipe

1 pt Grape Vodka
1 pt Green Apple Vodka
Slushie (Coke, Wild Cherry, Hawaiian Punch, etc)

Even I have to admit this is kinda cute. LOL. I'm not a big beer drinker, but I have to admit this does look like a Guinness. LOL. Pretty cool how the Kahlua acts as the main Guinness drink and the Bailey plays off the foam. Very ingenious. I need to try that shot ASAP!

Recipe
1oz Coffee Liqueur

New mix in the works

Yup, another mix in the works right here in the flesh! My friend bought me a bottle of New Amsterdam Vodka last week for my birthday. This is only a 750ML bottle. However, what I think I'm going to do is purchase a 250-300ML bottle of Bacardi 151 and another small bottle of Malibu rum and touch it up with Pineapple Juice for a party or something. We will definitely see wuz good! It might be a bit like the Caribou Lou but maybe a bit more potent and flavorful. If you don't know what that is, you can check it out below:
