How to Garnish cocktails - The Cocktail Spirit with Robert Hess

In my opinion, garnishes are one of the most important components of the drink. It's one of those things that really adds a lot of spunk and character. Not only with the presentation but it definitely adds major flavor. For example, if you are the kind of person that loves a Cape Cod or more commonly known as a Vodka/Cranberry, then a lime would be suitable because Cranberry is on the sour side but it's a bit sweet, too. The lime adds a bit of a bitterness and tangyness to the cocktails over all flavor.

Also with certain drinks that use Cognac, Brandy, or even a Gin. The garnish adds an extra scent. For example, a martini with a twist would include your gin then a lemon peel and twist. The oils add a bit of flavor, but the oils adds more of a lemon note to the cocktail bringing out the aroma more!

Here's a great description from Robert Hess talking about garnishes and flavors. Enjoy!
