Thirsty Thursdays - Making a Long Island Ice Tea with a Twist!

On Saturday of last week, I decided I would make my own Long Island but a different from the original recipe. Not even two long islands in and I feel a bit tipsy right now! LOL. I purposely did not down the 2nd one because I want to be well enough to write this post before I go in again! I'll probably have another one at around 8 or 9pm before I go out 2nite.

Here's how I made mine:

First off, the ingredients you need for your basic Long Island includes: Vodka, Rum, Gin, Triple Sec, Sweet and Sour Mix, and a Coca Cola.

As you can see here, I did not use the typical white rum. I used Captain Morgan - it was cheaper in the mini form and I feel like it adds a bit of spice and kick to the drink! Also, the sweet and sour is diet because this drink is a bit on the sugary side anyway.

Next, what I did was take the main parts of the drink (vodka, rum, gin, and triple sec), I put equal parts into the drink. Normally, people call for like a 1/2 oz a piece. I did mine a bit stronger like 3/4 oz of everything. I put them all over some ice.

Then after that I added the Sweet and Sour. It's good for creating color with your drink:

After you do that, you pour in a splash of Coca Cola or any regular Cola you want to buy (it doesn't have to be name brand)

It should look like this when you stir it. Note: the bottom is lighter because of the sweet and sour and top would be darker if you just put your float in WITHOUT stirring it. If you made it correctly, it should taste like an iced tea or even a sweet tea.

Ok, here where it gets a bit twisted. So, not only did I use a Spiced Rum instead of white, but the recipe for a Long Island Ice tea garnish calls for a Lemon or Lime Wedge or even a bit of Juice. I did an Orange. It has a lot more flavor and I think it meshes better. What I did at first was just peel the lemon and did a lil twist to get the oils right and left the peel in there like so:

Now, if you are like me and love the way flavors mesh together: you can get an orange, cut up a piece and pour in some real orange juice for added flavor and depth:

I really hope you liked my post. I had a lot of fun making it and getting the ingredients for it. I spent approximately $11.40 on this. Well, if you count just one, possibly 3.29.

One 50ML bottle of Skyy Vodka - $0.99
One 50ML of New Amsterdam Gin - $0.99
One 50ML of Captain Morgan Spiced Rum - $0.99

plus alcohol tax. So yeah, it came out to that figure. Not bad, right?

If you want to get more Long Island Ice Tea variants, then peep this post! Enjoy!
